The US Department of Energy has appointed an expert committee to report on its activities in energy efficiency and renewables to the Energy Secretary.
The 19-strong Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Advisory Committee (ERAC) will periodically review the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).
It will look at the Office’s priorities and strategies, whether long-range plans are being completed, programme funding and any areas of specific concern.
The Committee includes Hal Harvey, CEO of ClimateWorks Foundation; Mark Stoering of Xcel Energy; Maxine Savitz, retired general manager of Honeywell/AlliedSignal; Janette Sadik-Khan, commissioner of the New York department of transport; and academics from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rice University and Stanford.
“We are fortunate to have such knowledgeable people volunteering their time and efforts to the Department’s clean energy endeavours,” says Energy Secretary Steven Chu. “They will be contributing their expertise and experience to help address the energy challenges faced by our nation.”
ERAC will meet twice a year at meeting that will be open to the public.
