Danish turbine manufacturer Vestas has received an order from a California wind farm, while rival Siemens has landed a deal to supply the Dan Tysk wind farm off Germany’s coast.
The Vestas order is for 24 of its V90-3.0 MW turbines and 31 V90-1.8 MW models totalling 128 MW. Sacramento Municipal Utility District has placed the order for its Solano 3 project near Rio Vista in California.
Over the other side of the Atlantic, energy companies Vattenfall Europe and Stadtwerke München have ordered 80 of Siemens’ 3.6 MW turbines for the 288 MW Dan Tysk wind farm. Construction on the facility, which will lie off the island of Sylt, will begin in 2013 and complete in 2014.
Siemens has also received an order from grid operator TenneT to maintain power lines and transmission systems for two other offshore wind farms, HelWin1 northwest of Helgoland and BorWin2 near the island of Borkum. The 85-125 km long power lines will supply wind power to around two million German homes.
